Description
The 2006-10 Solstice roadster provided a fitting end to the wild-child Pontiac brand. The Solstice roadster concept that was rushed from pen to tin in merely four months, which speaks volumes about Bob Lutz, the retired Chrysler executive who was brought in to inject life and enthusiasm to GM. That turnaround time was possible in large part due to GM’s massive inventory of already available parts like Cadillac rear axle and glovebox, Chevrolet steering column and door handles, and GMC backup lights, to name a few.
The Solstice's 2.4-liter, 177-horsepower inline-four engine and five-speed from the Chevy Colorado pickup weren’t ideal, so performance was quickly addressed in the 2007 Solstice GXP, which boasted a 260-hp, 2.0-liter DOHC turbocharged four.
In 2009, the Solstice GXP added a coupe option. Both handsome and quite rare (amounting to only 1,266 of the 65,724 Solstices built), the coupe featured a removable targa top, adding to its versatility and appeal. The car’s 2.0-liter turbocharged Ecotec LNF inline-four engine could be mated to a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission.
Despite its popularity, the Solstice GXP's production was short-lived, as the Pontiac brand was discontinued in 2010. This, however, accelerated the Solstice’s collectability — especially GXP coupes like this one-owner example.
