1974 Mercedes-Benz 280 C Driving and Walk-Around

1974 Mercedes-Benz 280 C Cold Start
Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
In November 1968, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new coupe models 250 C and 250 CE, rounding off the W114/115 series at the upper end and introducing an exclusive coupe version to the intermediate-class product line for the first time. The coupes shared the basic technical concept and design with the sedans, closely resembling the 250-type sedan up to the A-pillar. However, from the A-pillar onwards, differences became more pronounced, with the coupe featuring a flatter front screen, a roof 45 millimeters lower than the sedan, and a two-door layout. The frameless front and rear side windows added to the car's elegant sportscar characteristics, along with a longer rear bumper extending to the wheel arches. Engine options included a 2.5-liter six-cylinder unit, with the coupe equipped with the most powerful engine of the series. In April 1972, alongside the new 280 sedan, the corresponding coupe version 280 C was introduced, featuring a completely new six-cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts. Following a model revision in September 1973, incorporating various safety and design enhancements, production of the "Stroke Eight" coupes ceased in August 1976, paving the way for their successors, the 123 series coupe models, which debuted in April 1977.
