Description
“Camaro stretches the limits of today’s technology,” its 1986 brochure professed. Everything about the third-generation Camaro, produced from 1982 to 1992, was indeed shaped by the times. With engines capable of only a fraction of the horsepower from its glory days of the 1960s, Chevrolet had to build a new Camaro that was smaller, lighter, and more aerodynamic, with a slim and angular design that shaved seven inches off its wheelbase and eliminated 500 pounds.
Thanks to its large glass hatchback and folding rear seats, the new Camaro was also more practical than its predecessors. Four Camaro models were offered in 1986, including the Z28 performance machines powered by Chevy’s 305 cu-in V8 with Tuned Port Injectors that produced 155 horsepower. How good was the Z28? It was on Car and Driver magazine’s 10Best list for 1985.
This well-preserved, original-condition 1986 Camaro Z28 shows just 43,770 actual miles. Being a Z28, it’s loaded with factory options, including five-speed manual, air conditioning, and glass T-Tops. As a Chevrolet engineer said of the ’86 model, “We’re matching our talent and imagination against some of the top performance car engineers in the world. And the result is truly exciting.”
