Description

New for the 1960 model year, the 356 B was known internally as the “T5.” While it may have looked similar on the outside to the 356 A that it replaced, there were numerous significant changes throughout the entire car. Mixed in among those changes (enlarged bumpers, raised headlights, newly positioned blinkers, and a larger front hood handle) was the replacement of the now iconic Speedster model for the short-lived Convertible D mid-way through 1959. While a few Speedsters may have slipped out the back door for racing that year, the new Roadster model permanently joined Coupe and Convertible in the 356 B model range as the sporting model for 1960. Just like the Speedster, the Roadster with its light body and removable windshield became the darling of those who drove their 356s to the track, raced them, and drove home.

Over the years, many open-topped 356 have been raced, yet most of these have not been built to the level of this Roadster. Finished in Ruby Red with a Silver Metallic front livery reminiscent of Bruce Jennings’ late 1950s 356 racers, this vintage Roadster racecar features an impressive 1,700 cc engine with all the right components that include JE pistons, Carrillo rods, and an Accusump dry sump oil system. Unraced since its completion, this 356 B Roadster is sure to be a front runner in the right hands.
