1977 Chrysler Cordoba
Description
“Cordoba. A personal automobile of marked distinction and character... Fully reflected in Cordoba's sparkling success.”
The 1977 Chrysler Cordoba was a notable model in the personal luxury car segment, produced by Chrysler from 1975 to 1983. The Cordoba was Chrysler's first entry into the intermediate-sized personal luxury car market, a segment that was gaining popularity in the mid-1970s.
The 1977 model year featured several updates and options that made it stand out. It was available in 18 colors, including various shades of brown like Carmel Tan, Light Chestnut, and Spanish Gold that were popular then. The Cordoba offered different roof options, such as the Landau or Halo vinyl roof with opera windows and side lamps, or the Crown roof in padded "elk-grain" vinyl.
Under the hood, the 1977 Cordoba came standard with a Chrysler 400 cu-in V-8 engine paired with a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission, providing a smooth driving experience. The car rode on 15-inch radial tires, with options for wire wheel covers or chrome-style “road wheels.”
One of the most memorable aspects of the Cordoba was its marketing campaign featuring actor Ricardo Montalbán, who famously touted the car’s optional “soft Corinthian leather” interior. This phrase became synonymous with the Cordoba and added to its luxurious image.
