1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 Exhaust Note
Description
Midway through the Chevrolet Chevelle's first generation, the muscle car received a complete restyle in 1966 that included smooth contours, a broad new grille, bumper treatment, and curved side windows. Bulging rear fender lines and a “flying buttress” roofline (tunneled into the “C” pillar) were highlights of the ’66 hardtops. The new body reflected the “Coke bottle” shape that became the fad for American cars in the mid-1960s.
The 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle 396 was introduced as a high-performance variant, featuring a 396 cubic-inch Turbo-Jet V8 engine that was part of Chevrolet's Mark IV big-block series and came in three optional power outputs: 325, 350, and 375 horsepower. The SS 396 could be had with a three-speed manual transmission, four-speed manual, and a two-speed Powerglide automatic.
The two-door sport coupe boasted aggressive front-end styling with a blacked-out grille and SS badging, as well as a comfortable cabin with bucket seats, center console, and special SS dash. This '67 Chevelle 396 SS was restored and repainted about eight years ago.
