Description

For 1939, Ford Standard models featured the stylish Art Deco look of the ’38 Fords designed by influential chief designer Eugene T. Gregorie and company president Edsel Ford. The value-priced Standard versions were only available as a Fordor Sedan, Tudor Coupe, Fordor Station Wagon, or Tudor Sedan like this one. The Standard models were powered by the famous “flathead” V8 engine producing either 60 or optionally 85 horsepower.

The entire 1939 Ford lineup was hugely popular in its day, but by the 1950s these were just inexpensive used cars—perfect for the growing hot rod movement. This ’39 Standard Tudor Coupe has the vibe of those early rods, with its shaved bumpers, louvered hood, “frenched” taillights, and reverse chrome rims. It’s also powered by its original 91A 221 cu-in 85 hp V8, now bored to 239 cu-in and featuring three Speedway 9 Super 7 carbs, Offenhauser intake manifold and aluminum heads, and Fenton headers — like right out of the ’50s.  There are some modern updates, too, including a 12-volt electrical system, five-speed manual transmission, and Chevrolet front disk brakes. Finished in Tuxedo Black with beautifully crafted pinstriping, this 1939 Ford Standard Tudor Sedan is a true blast from the past.
