Select the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia model year you want to research current market prices for
Styled by Carrozzeria Ghia in Italy with the bodywork built by Karmann in Germany, the Karmann Ghia was introduced in 1955 as Volkswagen’s premium product. It was also VW’s second passenger car. Although it shared its underpinnings with the humble Beetle, the Karmann Ghia had an entirely different personality and offered a more spirited driving experience. It underwent subtle design modifications over the years. The early cars featured a distinctive low, rounded roofline. In 1957, Volkswagen added a convertible version to the lineup that could prove very popular. In 1961, wider and finned front grilles arrived along with taller taillights and higher headlights. Taillights grew again in 1970 and in 1972 Volkswagen swapped the smooth, round original bumpers for larger, squarer ones. Production was discontinued after 1974 to make room for the new Golf-based Scirocco. Karmann Ghias’ distinctive styling and distinctive driving experience, thanks to a rear-mounted air-cooled engine, make them cherished classics.
