Model overview

Model description

The year 1977 would be the last for the Beetle Sedan in the U.S., though it would be built in Mexico until 2003. VW overall, meanwhile, reversed a seven-year decline this year thanks to Rabbit, Scirocco and Transporter sales.

Worldwide production totaled at 2,219,000 vehicles but Beetle sales slumped to 19,245 units in the U.S. However 7155 of those were Cabriolets, as it was one of the few ragtops out there left for Americans to buy. VW had built 19.3 million Beetle sedans to this point and sold 5 million of them in the U.S. Prices jumped again, to $3699 for the 1977 Beetle Sedan and $4799 for the Super Beetle Cabriolet. A final “Champagne Edition” of the Cabriolet was produced in Triple White colors and about 1000 were sold.
