Model overview

Model description

The year 1975 marked the introduction of catalytic converters to the Chevy Camaro and indeed all GM passenger cars. These devices required unleaded fuel, and High Energy ignition (HEI) was standardized, eliminating the need for points. The 1075 Camaro was largely unchanged visually with the exception of a wraparound rear window to solve blind spot problems. Radial tires also became standar.d Sales fell about 5,000 units to 145,770, and 29,749 were six-cylinder models.

Base price for the 105 bhp, 250 cid six-cylinder Sport Coupe was $3,5503, while the 145 bhp 350 cid V-8 Sport Coupe cost $3,698. The Luxury LT Coupe was only available with a V-8 and cost $4,070. There were 76,178 V8 Sport Coupes built, and 39,843 LT V-8s.

Comfort and luxury items were the principal options, with 113,104 cars having tinted glass ($45), 77,276 with air-conditioning ($435), and 126,518 with the Turbo-Hydramatic transmission for $235. A total of 73,864 buyers ordered side moldings ($38), 26,885 ordered vinyl tops ($87), 21,028 ordered front and rear spoilers ($77), and 39,843 ordered the black striping kit ($77). Inside the ’75 Camaro, 134,039 buyers order a console ($68), 43,385 bought color-keyed floor mats ($14), 1,940 fitted deluxe carpets ($30), 77,993 settled for an AM radio ($69), and 40,292 went for a rear speaker ($19).

There was still some hope for enthusiasts. The lower horsepower V-8 wasn’t available in California, so V-8 buyers were part of the 31,569 who ordered the LM1 engine which offered 155 bhp for an extra $54. A mere 8,681 opted for the 4-speed, which was only available in wide-ratio configuration for $219. Radial-tuned suspension attracted 12,201 buyers ($35) and the gymkhana suspension found 3,711 takers ($112), while Positraction found 8,957 customers ($49). Meanwhile, 13,133 buyers went for the heavy duty radiator for a bargain $15.

The Z28 package was discontinued, though one car was reportedly built, and the Rally Sport was not available initially, though it returned mid-year and 7,000 buyers paid $238 for a stripe, paint and decal package (no hidden headlights or snout grille).

A total of 15 colors were available again for the 1975 Chevrolet Camaro: Antique White, Silver Light Gray, Bright Blue, Midnight Blue, Medium Green, Dark Green, Cream Beige, Bright Yellow, Dark Sandstone, Light Saddle, Medium Orange, Dark Red and Light Red. This was the last year where numbers of each color were not counted.
