It’s still no beauty, but Bentley has done an effective nip and tuck on the big Bentayga SUV.

Drawing inspiration from the latest Continental GT and Flying Spur, the Bentayga adopts a more familiar face. The grille is bigger and stands more upright. The intelligent LED matrix headlamps now feature a signature design based on cut crystal glass and the bumper is a little more aggressive. Overall it’s a decent nose job that gets rid of the original’s ungainliness.

It’s at the rear that the biggest transformation has taken place. There’s a new full-width tailgate and elegant encapsulated tail lamps. The license plate holder is moved to the rear bumper and the look is completed with wide split tailpipes and an increase in rear track width. A new 22-inch wheel design completes the visual transformation.

Inside the changes are just as welcome, with a new center fascia, steering wheel, door trims, and seats. There’s more space for rear passengers and the back seats now have a ventilation option.

On the technology front there’s a 10.9-inch high definition display with upgraded software and wireless Apple Car Play. USB-C ports are fitted, along with wireless phone charging, while rear passengers get a bigger touchscreen.

A dark tint brushed aluminum trim is offered inside for the first time or you can pick from two traditional wood veneers.

Mechanically the Bentayga remains unchanged, and the refreshed ultra-luxe SUV will launch with V-8 power. Hybrid and W-12 Speed versions will follow.

The Bentayga has been been a huge success for Bentley already, accounting for 45 percent of the brand’s sales in 2019. With this new look, it’s a better choice than ever.
