This 211-mph electric Corvette C7 is the fastest road-going EV to date
Genovation Cars Inc. took root over a decade ago, when founders Andrew Saul and Steve Rogers first created the G1, a Ford Focus converted to electric drive. Following that was the G2, a small EV concept made of recycled composites. Then came a project with considerably more excitement: the GXE high-performance EV, which is based on the Chevy Corvette C7.
While the straight-line top speed of an electric car may seem irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, it’s a good indicator of what sort of punishment Genovation’s components can take. Consider the batteries, inverters, motors, and the thermal management of the whole system, not to mention the active suspension of the GXE which improves cornering speeds, high-speed stability and drag performance.
Having achieved 211.6 mph (in one direction) on the 3.2-miles long and 1000-feet wide Shuttle Landing Facility of Florida’s Kennedy Space Central, multiple speed recorder Johnny Bohmer says the GXE should also run the quarter in the low 10s. What’s for sure is that with 800 horsepower and 718 lb-ft of torque on tap, plus Carbon Revolution wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup II tires, the GXE prototype is the fastest electric road car on the planet. And since it uses an 800-volt system just like you’d find on a a Porsche Taycan, who knows what this C7-based platform can achieve down the road, as Genovation pursues its long-term goal of delivering a vehicle with a completely in-house design.
