The MX-5 Cup is Getting a Docu-Drama
If you’re looking for a new motorsports show to stream then Miata is the answer. First to the Finish from Amazon Prime turns the cameras on the ambitious young racers of the MX-5 Cup who are battling to make a name for themselves.
First to the Finish follows the 2024 championship, with particular attention paid to the women of BSI Racing. Owner Shea Holbrook gave up a successful driving career to start a family, but now she’s back as a boss. She’s “widely respected and already known as an indomitable force,” say the showrunners.
In the hot seats are Heather Hadley, juggling her studies at UNC-Charlotte with her second year in the championship, and rising star Sally Mott who won a scholarship at the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Cup Shootout and is “fresh out of high school, and eager to succeed.”
“The Mazda MX-5 Cup gave us a rich backdrop for storytelling,” says Sarina Roma, EVP of Originals at Boardwalk Pictures and executive producer. “We had incredible access to passionate characters competing in a high risk, high reward environment who put their actual lives on the line in pursuit of the checkered flag.”
With Netflix’s Drive to Survive now hitting its seventh season and offering its own insight into the highest echelons of motor racing, while introducing a new legion of younger fans, First to the Finish shines a deserved spotlight on the sport’s grassroots.

“The MX-5 Cup Championship is widely regarded as some of the best automotive racing on the planet and predominantly features younger drivers looking to prove themselves,” says Mazda North American Operations Chief Marketing Officer and executive producer, Brad Audet. “Mazda believes in the power of human potential and supports those who choose to pursue what makes them happy rather than just simply move through life. This series demonstrates the potential these young drivers have and what it looks like when it’s transformed into action.”
You can watch First to the Finish on Amazon Prime from March 25 and check out the trailer below.
I’ll wait for people to watch this to tell me how it goes. I’d rather watch reruns of the Grand Tour or Clarksons Farm on Amazon.
