The first new AC Cobra Superblower is ready to strike
AC Cars entered the 2020s with a shock announcement that the iconic Cobra would be going electric. The British sports car maker did, thankfully, also announce a couple of good old (new) gasoline models. One would be powered by a Ford Ecoboost turbo and the other a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8. The first of those V-8s is now on sale in the U.K. for $175,500.
The 378 Superblower is a faithful reproduction of the original curvaceous Cobra, sitting on a four-inch round tube ladder frame chassis. The mighty 6.2-liter LSA crate motor produces 590 horsepower thanks to its Eaton supercharger and drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission with 3.45:1 ratio limited slip differential. Brakes are by race-spec calipers and vented discs, and the all-round multi-link suspension is fitted with coil over shock absorbers and anti-roll bars.
The interior is hand-finished in leather with deep pile carpets, and the only concessions to convenience you’ll find are a glove box and map pockets, so leave your mega-gulp and phone at home when you take this reborn beauty out for a blat.
The latest Cobras are all being sold through Boss Motor Company in Buckinghamshire and are recreations of a car that was sold in limited numbers in 1998.
