Supercar startup alert: Meet The Naran
British-based Naran Automotive has teased its first limited-run production car. The Naran is a 2+2 coupe that combines luxury and speed in extremis.
Founded by Ameerh Naran, a 34-year-old private jet broker and former racer, Naran Automotive has enlisted some heavy hitters to develop The Naran. The design comes from Jowyn Wong who created the Apollo IE and De Tomaso P72, with the interior crafted by ex-Aston Martin designer Kate Montgomery. The powertrain comes from Racing Dynamics and the engineering team is EY3 Engineering, led by Daniel Mense, who worked on the NIO EP9 electric hypercar.
The car’s silhouette evokes a little bit of Aston Martin, while the front end has a more eastern design influence. No pictures of the interior have been released yet, but Naran promises every one of the 49 cars produced will be individually tailored to its owner’s desires.
Powering The Naran is a twin-turbocharged, 5.0-liter, V-8 producing a claimed 1062 horsepower and 764 lb-ft of torque. With its four-wheel drive system, which can also be switched to rear-drive, the car is said to launch from 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds and reach 100 mph from rest in 4.56 seconds. Top speed is “expected” to be above 230 mph.
The car uses double wishbone suspension at all four corners, with adjustable anti-roll bars and adjustable Öhlins dampers. Carbon ceramic brakes are installed and, refreshingly, the car relies on hydraulic power steering for better feel. The bodywork and 22-inch wheels are made of carbon fiber.
Naran says the car will make its dynamic debut in 2021. “With The Naran, we are creating a GT3-inspired, driver-focused, front-mid engined 2+2 hyper-coupé, that delivers unrivalled material innovation and a commitment to reviving the analogue driving experience.”
