Porsche Digital offers vinyl wraps to honor classic liveries
Working with design studios, paint, and film suppliers, Porsche will soon make and apply custom vinyl wraps for Porsches, or any other brand of vehicle, with an online configurator for designing the bespoke livery.
Porsche Digital is the automaker’s subsidiary devoted to fostering digitally based “new ideas, services and experiences that integrate the Porsche lifestyle into [customers’] daily lives,” and starting next month, Porsche Digital will kick off its so-called Second Skin livery service.
Second Skin will be selling some classic motorsport-inspired liveries, like the red and blue over white Martini Racing colors that have graced many competition Porsches, but the possibilities are endless, as customers will be able to specify both factory original colors as well as hues not previously available on Porsches. So, for example, if you want your Porsche wrapped in a shade of Green from Audi’s palette, they can do that.
As mentioned, Porsche Digital is taking the word custom at its full meaning. Second Skin is apparently available for all cars, not just Porsches.
For the time being, Second Skin will be applying the wraps at a facility in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany, with pickup and delivery service available in Germany. Porsche Digital has a California branch in Silicon Valley, and another branch that is opening soon in Tel Aviv, Israel. We’ve asked Porsche if installation will be expanded to other locations but received no information as of this writing.
Customers can go to the online configurator at the Second Skin site, select their vehicle and start designing their custom livery. If they wish, they can be assisted by a Porsche Digital consultant or craft the livery by themselves. One the design is finished, the customer is given a price and a non-binding offer, and the transaction is then completed online.
To demonstrate Second Skin, Porsche will be displaying a 911 RSR with a graphics package designed by artist Richard Phillips at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race and festivities this weekend.
Florian Rothfus, Director of Digital Business at Porsche Digital, said, in announcing the service, “We wanted to use the project in Le Mans to demonstrate what we can do in terms of automotive design and that there are no limits to the imagination with ‘Second Skin’.”
You can pre-register now. Pricing is estimated to be from about $4500 to $6750 for completely wrapping a vehicle, with partial wraps priced lower. Visit SecondSkin.design for more details and the custom online configurator.
