Nissan registered an old Z for the new Z
The Nissan 370Z is so long in the tooth that the now-13-year-old GT-R almost looks fresh parked next to it. Still, the long wait for the smaller Nissan sports car’s replacement is almost over, with a Canadian trademark application filed for what appears to be the upcoming Z’s logo.
As Motor Trend points out, Nissan may end up using a 4.0-liter version of its currently 3.7-liter V-6 in the next Z. The upcoming car should also wear the logo shown above, complete with a diagonal slash through its midsection, first seen on the original Datsun 240Z and its later evolutions.
Nissan’s Z cars switched to a cleaner Z-look back in 1983, with the introduction of the Nissan/Datsun 300ZX. If this old-school Z is anything to build on, Nissan’s new sports car may hit us with more retro styling, which would be an interesting contrast to the Toyota Supra’s classic proportions but contemporary design.
