New Alfa Romeo Stelvio Coming This Year, New Giulia to Follow

There’s a new Alfa Romeo Stelvio on the way, and we won’t have to wait long to see it. The company’s CEO confirmed that the next-generation SUV will make its debut before the end of the year. He also announced that the Giulia will return for a new generation, though what it will look like is up in the air.

Posting on LinkedIn, Alfa Romeo boss Santo Ficili revealed that the second-generation Stelvio’s unveiling will take place before the end of 2025. The model will enter production in 2026, meaning it will likely land in showrooms across the nation as a 2027 model. Ficili also dropped a fascinating crumb of information that ends years of rumors and speculation: The next Stelvio won’t be exclusively sold with electric power.

The SUV will ride on the STLA-Large platform, according to the executive. It’s a modular, multi-energy architecture that currently underpins the Jeep Wagoneer S and the current-generation Dodge Charger, and it can accommodate electric and hybrid drivetrains. Ficili said the Stelvio “will also be available with a hybrid gasoline version,” which suggests that an electric model will be part of the range in some markets.

It’s too early to tell what the next Stelvio will look like, though more details should emerge in the next few months. We’re not expecting major changes in terms of positioning; Nothing suggests that the Stelvio will morph into, say, a jumbo-sized three-row aimed at the BMW X7 or a Jeep Wrangler-baiting off-roader.

The next-gen Giulia “will follow” after the Stelvio, Ficili said, and it’s tentatively scheduled to break cover in 2026. Like its SUV sibling, it will be built on the STLA-Large platform and offer a hybrid drivetrain, though here again we’re guessing that an electric variant will join the range in some parts of the world.

But, the continuation of the Giulia name doesn’t necessarily mean that Alfa is committed to sedans: Earlier in 2025, Ficili told French magazine L’Argus that big changes are in store for the new Giulia. It will feature “a new design, and a new type of body,” he said, which seemingly suggests that it won’t return as a sleek, three-box sedan.

What could it be, then? Your guess is as good as ours. We’re betting it won’t be a traditional SUV, because that’s what the Stelvio is. While this is pure speculation, we’re also ruling out an SUV that’s smaller than the Stelvio and one that’s bigger. There’s a lot of heritage behind the Giulia name, and we’re guessing (or hoping?) that Alfa’s marketing department is aware of that. One of the more contentious options on the table is a fastback-like SUV in the vein of the BMW X6. Another possibility is a sedan with a more swept-back silhouette and a large hatch, more along the lines of a 4 Series Gran Coupe than of a 3 Series.

The current Giulia is a great looking sedan. Unfortunately the early magazine reports with the cars shutting down, going into limp mode, etc. kind of doomed the cars sales.
