Make this ex-Elton John Maserati your Guilty Pleasure

The Market

A 2005 Maserati Quattroporte that was ordered new by Elton John could be a dream come true for fans of unreliable Italian exotica and British pop icons.

Up for online auction in the U.K. by The Market from February 18, the car is still standing after all this time but isn’t exactly in mint condition. The sellers describe the Verdi green metallic paintwork as having an “impressive shine” but also confess that it has a number of stone chips, and at least one rust spot on the sill by one of the rear doors. There are a few additional marks on the bodywork, and the alloy wheels have been curbed and are bubbling places. The tires will need replacing soon as well.

The car is in Executive GT trim with cuio (leather) interior and rosewood veneers and the cabin is said to be in decent shape with only a little creasing on the leather seats. Fitted with a Bose sound system, the Quattroporte is also offered with an Elton John Greatest Hits CD (!). The heated, massage seats are functioning and the air conditioning blows as cold as Christmas.

Fitted with a 4.2-liter, 400-hp V-8 built by Ferrari, and mated to a six-speed Duo Select transmission the Quattroporte is a sports sedan that goes like a rocket, man, taking off to 62 mph in just 5.2 seconds and blasting on to a 171 mph top speed.

Elton’s Quattroporte is being offered for sale with a pair of his old driving gloves, a letter to from the dealer, and the registration document with Sir Elton John at the top of the list of former keepers. The Maserati is estimated to fetch between £15,000 and £40,000 ($21,000-$55,000) depending on how much buyers think the pop idol provenance is worth. We expect the bidding to be strong and the car to be gone like a candle in the wind.
