Listen to the Dodge Charger Daytona EV’s Fratzonic Exhaust
When the new Charger was revealed in March of this year, we learned of Dodge’s grand plan to offer two significantly different powertrains beneath the same shape. You’ll be able to have the new Charger with a gas-burning, twin-turbocharged straight-six, or you can go the all-electric route with the Charger Daytona EV.
The latter promised a simulated exhaust note, something the company announced at a preview of the concept back in 2022 but then quietly skipped over at the debut in March. When Dodge explained its “fratzonic” chambered exhaust, it said the system would utilize a real exhaust chamber to resonate sounds played through speakers that together would mimic the tenor of a Hemi V-8.
Yesterday, we finally got our first sample of the Fratzonic exhaust, courtesy of a short reel on Instagram. The clip shows a silver Charger Daytona EV accelerating through a tunnel, and you can hear the distinct whine of an electric motor (or a few) at the beginning of the clip, followed by the rising baritone thump of a Hemi V-8—although not a real one.
Dodge reportedly went through “hundreds” of iterations before picking the sound we assume to be the winner. We’d say the result is pleasant, if a bit sterile. Of course, we’d all love to hear an actual Hemi under the hood of Charger, but as we know, that’s not likely to happen.
How does the new Fratzonic exhaust note sound to you? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.
While they’re at it throw on fake side pipes, and put a fake stick shift in it.
I’d also include some window cleaner when the sound thingy breaks and you have to make the noises with your mouth. You might spit spray the inside of the windshield if you’re really going fast.
Like baseball cards hitting bicycle spokes….sounded okay at the time, but it was still fake
The bard for the win – “It’s all sound and fury, signifying nothing”.
Pathetic!
This has already been done, presented to the residents of America, and accepted…
Professor Fate in the Hannibal 8, the black car from the Great Race, the best sounding exhaust ever, even when it didn’t match the cars motion!
Fun movie. Professor Fate was hilarious, and the Hannibal 8 was fabulous. Natalie Wood wasn’t half-bad, either!
RIP Dodge
So, I’m a dinosaur at 75. ICE and only ICE vehicles for me! I won’t ever own an EV, even those sounds annoy me. But pumping ICE sounds into or out of an EV seems like the height of folly to me!!!
Who are these bozos at Chrysler trying to appease? Do they honestly think that the people that want or care about a real exhaust sound are going to buy an EV?? They’re going to buy the REAL thing, because there’s no substitute. And the EV crowd doesn’t care…they’re weird anyway.
Braaaaaw, haaa ha. That’s just stupid.
I won’t buy a totally electric vehicle, don’t want any part of range/usefulness anxiety, especially with a price tag that seems normal for that market. But build me a plug in hybrid with a 50 mile EV range before the engine takes over, with a sweet spot that combines both, you can save for when needed and top off after driving a while. All for under $40k! Keep a bell or whistle here or there, but lest have that! In a nice 2-4 dr Charger. Heck the 3.6 Pentastar would be fine, how fast/quick you need to go! How much is reasonable to pay for insurance?
Dodge wiring + electric car? Yikes…
I’m not in the market for an EV, but if I were, this would be a top contender. Dodge had to go down this road, but they didn’t focus on mpg. They stayed true to the ethos of the brand. And that exhaust is 1000% better than any other EV. Now, if they could lower the weight and the price while reintroducing feel and connectivity to the road, I’d be interested. While I’m dreaming, let’s make it manual also! 😁
And somewhere, a Charger Daytona EV buyer wannabe is exploring the interweb for bigger aftermarket exhaust speakers…you know, for the sound of more horsepower. 🙄
Dodge should add a gas cap and a sticker that reads “Premium Fuel Only” to get the full stupid experience.
It’s fake. It’s a lie. It’s fraudulent. If they have to try this hard to give an EV a soul or any character, it simply proves that they have neither.
Why do they have to make noise? Tesla is one of the quickest cars on the road. And they’re deadly quiet.
