Listen to the Dodge Charger Daytona EV’s Fratzonic Exhaust

When the new Charger was revealed in March of this year, we learned of Dodge’s grand plan to offer two significantly different powertrains beneath the same shape. You’ll be able to have the new Charger with a gas-burning, twin-turbocharged straight-six, or you can go the all-electric route with the Charger Daytona EV.

The latter promised a simulated exhaust note, something the company announced at a preview of the concept back in 2022 but then quietly skipped over at the debut in March. When Dodge explained its “fratzonic” chambered exhaust, it said the system would utilize a real exhaust chamber to resonate sounds played through speakers that together would mimic the tenor of a Hemi V-8.

Yesterday, we finally got our first sample of the Fratzonic exhaust, courtesy of a short reel on Instagram. The clip shows a silver Charger Daytona EV accelerating through a tunnel, and you can hear the distinct whine of an electric motor (or a few) at the beginning of the clip, followed by the rising baritone thump of a Hemi V-8—although not a real one.

Dodge reportedly went through “hundreds” of iterations before picking the sound we assume to be the winner. We’d say the result is pleasant, if a bit sterile. Of course, we’d all love to hear an actual Hemi under the hood of Charger, but as we know, that’s not likely to happen.

How does the new Fratzonic exhaust note sound to you? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.

Wife and I just bought 2023 Charger Scat Pack,, Electric Hemi sound,,it’s loud,it’s nice, but it will never be Real..Real Hemi equals Real Sound

Yep! Love the sound of the Hemi V-8.. I’ve got a Durango R/T and Challenger Hellcat Redeye.. they both sound amazing!

I own a 2022 Challenger Hellcat Redeye. I still prefer mine over the EV.. but that is personal choice.. which Stellantis took away.. I think they need to offer a combination of EV and ICE performance vehicles.

A lot of wasted time and effort on creating that sound. “Sterile” is a perfect description. Stellantis should spend 80% of their money on improving quality and 20% on gimmicks.

Good idea… Chrysler has had quality issues with it’s production since it’s first bail-out in the early 80’s and they do not appear to want to acknowledge it.

I thought they were doing something with forced air through a chamber…like an electric pump. That was kind of dinky, but I thought it was at least interesting. The fake electronic speaker sound is way lame. I’ll take the TT 6.

Eating popcorn slowly, waiting for the hemi swap kit.

I don’t understand why. It is just like vegans that make everything simulate meat. I want the real thing and if I choose electric then I want electric sounds.

I must be missing something. I’m not sure why there’s so much hatin’ on the fake sound. I would suspect that there will be some way to switch it off when desired. And since the sound is produced electronically, I suspect there will be other optional sounds (at least it’s technically possible) available. For those who are OK with EVs in general, this should be OK. For those who are not OK with EVs, there’s no need to even comment on fake sounds. It should not even apply to you. Why does it even matter.
    Just my two cents 🙂

Why? What’s going to happen is that folks are going to hack it, and there’s going to be all sorts of strange, loud noises emanating from these cars. People that think there’s too many loud, bad sounding vehicles today are going to cringe mightily when this hits the streets! (…..including myself, I think.)

Fartzonic is the equivalent of trying to make a vegan burger taste like meat. (Yes, intentionally misspelled)

You can get a better exhaust note than this “Fartsonic” exhaust speaker thingy leaving your favorite Taco Bell. No thank you to both options.
