Jeep Gladiator’s new trailer brake controller improves stopping power, safety
Mopar is improving the Jeep Gladiator’s towing experience with the release of a new trailer brake controller that offers additional stopping power by activating the electronic brakes on properly equipped trailers.
According to Mopar, the trailer brake controller is independent from the truck’s braking system. With the push of a button and a turn of a dial, it customizes trailer braking pressure depending on load size. Mark Bosanac, head of Mopar service, parts, and customer care for FCA’s North America branch, says the controller will be particularly useful on downhill grades and “maximizes safety when towing,” in addition to minimizing wear and tear on both the trailer and the truck.
The round controller knob is installed in front of the transmission shift lever on new Gladiators; it can also be retrofitted into models that are already on the road. MSRP is $299, and the system can be purchased at Jeep dealerships in the U.S. and Canada. The trailer brake controller comes with standard Mopar factory-backed warranty coverage, including two years/unlimited miles from date of purchase or up to the remainder of the new-vehicle’s warranty of three years/36,000 miles.
