Is Volvo poised to join the classic EV game with a Polestar P1800?

Spyshots from Sweden showing a camouflaged Volvo P1800 with no tailpipes suggest that an electrified classic coupe could be on its way.

The P1800 celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2021, and launching a factory-built electric resto-mod would be quite a way to commemorate the occasion. Adding fuel to the idea is the small Polestar Engineered badge on the grille. Could this classic be underpinned by the running gear from the all-electric Polestar 2?

The car was spotted near Volvo’s Gothenburg test track by Reddit user thevolvofans and a close look reveals bigger wheels and tires than standard, and a front splitter that definitely wasn’t around in 1961.

With premium brands such as Aston Martin and Jaguar already demonstrating factory electric classics and the market for aftermarket conversions from the likes of Zero Labs, Twisted and Lunaz Design growing, will Volvo be next to join the party?
