GT500 Heritage Edition joins Mustang lineup for 2022
In 1967, Shelby added a heavy dose of displacement to the sporty Mustang chassis and created the Shelby GT500, a 428-powered missile that was one of the hottest street cars available. A similar recipe is what yielded the current-generation GT500, a 760-hp beast of a Mustang that somehow manages to be a thoroughly sorted sports car. With a monster supercharger on top of a 5.2-liter DOHC V-8, torque is never an issue and the track-tuned suspension helps make the most out of every bit of power you dare ask for.
As if the GT500 weren’t enough of a head-turner, Ford is honoring the 55th anniversary of the model with a special 2022 Mustang Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition that seeks to set a select few apart. As the GT500 is already the most powerful street-legal Mustang to ever roll off a Ford assembly line, the Heritage Edition is merely an appearance package that gives buyers a choice. Do you want your “Over-the-Top” racing stripes and side stripe in vinyl, for $2140, or do you go for hand-painted stripes for a significantly more expensive $12,140? With a base price of $76,695 including destination and the requisite gas guzzler tax, the hand-painted Heritage Edition will carry an MSRP of $88,835.
Orders ford the 2022 Shelby GT500, including the Heritage Edition, open November 15.
If a more affordable, drop-top special edition is more your speed, Ford is offering a Coastal Limited Edition package for the 310-hp Mustang EcoBoost Premium that is available in both fastback and convertible flavors. The package includes 19-inch wheels, vinyl side stripes, a black grille, side scoops, pedestal rear spoiler, and a unique lighted sill plate and instrument panel badge. The Coastal Limited Edition package is an extra $1995 on top of the Mustang Ecoboost Premium MSRP of $33,490 and is available only in Brittany Blue, Cyber Orange, and Rapid Red.
