Ford celebrates Shelby’s Mustang history with Heritage Edition GT350
Ford’s relationship with Carroll Shelby helped forge race-winning Cobras, GT40s, and the vaunted GT350. Now Ford is paying tribute to the 55th anniversary of the original GT350 with the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350 Heritage Edition Package, available on both the GT350 and GT350R.
The package will be available in the same color combo used on the original GT350—Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue stripes—which represents the international racing colors of the United States. The color combination draws an immediate parallel with the original GT350’s racing stripes that stretched from front fascia, across the hood and roof, and down the trunk and tail panel. Like the original, the 2020 version will also feature Guardsman Blue rocker stripes.
The year 2020 also brings performance improvements to every GT350R by way of a new steering knuckle originally developed for the GT500 as well as a new steering rack and tuning for the electric power steering.
The special GT350s will begin production in early 2020 and carry an additional $1965 premium over the GT350 and GT350R, which have MSRPs of $61,535 and $74,530, respectively, including destination. In addition to the special color, each Heritage Edition will feature Guardsman Blue badging on the front and rear plus a unique dash badge.
Collectors have flocked to special edition Mustangs in the past. Will they opt in for the Heritage Edition in droves, or will this be a rarely-seen treat for future car spotters?
