Such is the speed of progress in the EV world that Porsche’s first electric car is already getting a suite of upgrades to improve range, performance, and usability.

2021 Taycan models include a new charging system that can offer up to 270 kW of electrical oomph or, if the driver has a little more time to spare, then a lower 200-kW rate can be chosen to protect the battery pack. If you’re charging at home a new power guard feature will prevent overloading your supply, and can also be configured to work with a home solar energy supply.

Performance ticks up, with the top-spec Taycan Turbo S now propelling itself from 0-124 mph in just 9.6 seconds. A head-up display is available and Smartlift is added to the air suspension. This works with the GPS to automatically lift the nose over speed humps or uneven surfaces on regular routes.

The Taycan will now also be able to receive over-the-air updates and upgrades with a “Functions On Demand” service. Features such as Active Lane Keep Assist and Power Steering Plus can be added with a few touch-screen actions—and a fee payable to the Porsche Connect Store, of course.

Three new colors have also been added to the palette. Mahogany, Coffee Beige, and Frozenberry may sound more like a frozen drinks on a Starbucks menu, but we all know how well cars and coffee go together.
