Drive Back to the Future with This Movie-Replica DeLorean
“Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads!” So says Doc Emmett Brown at the end of Back to the Future, before he flies off with Marty McFly into the sequel.
Now, should you fancy a spot of time travel yourself, an exact replica of the flying DeLorean from Back to the Future Part II is headed to auction.
The car comes complete with a Flux Capacitor and time circuits, plus a Mr Fusion reactor mounted at the rear. Sadly, despite now living ten years beyond the 2015 future imaged in the movie, these features still only work in our imagination, although the car does come with neon lighting and a remote-controlled fog generator, so the new owner can pretend.
Mechanically the car is unmodified, with power coming from the underwhelming rear-mounted 2.8-liter Renault V-6 and drive going via a five-speed manual transmission. You’ll have to work around the highly-complicated interior electronic gizmos to shift cleanly.
Externally you’ll find recreations of the star car’s fictional fusion power system, including a pair of rear jets, while the accuracy of this replica even extends to the barcode number plate.
Mecum Auctions claims that the car is one of seven examples built to promote the film but wasn’t actually captured on camera. Nonetheless, this dramatic DeLorean is estimated to sell for $150,000-$200,000 at the Kissimmee auction on January 18.
Those with a less blockbuster budget can also pick from four other DMC12s up for grabs—one of which is offered with no reserve.
I like reproductions of movie cars but BTF, Batman and Ghost Busters are getting a bit too common.
To be honest. I’m no fan of Fast and Furious but I would have expected more copy cars from these movies.
We have the Grand Sport Corvette here locally. But it is the real thing. The company that built the cars for the bridge scene is here.
We also had one of the original Fantasy Island Dodge Surry wagons. It even has been modified for Hervey.
I just re-watched the Back to The Future Trilogy on the 4K Blu-Rays. Such fun movies.
Oh man, I really want this
Guess I should have worked harder and been smarter to be able to pony up the $200k
