Alpine’s new A110 again taunts us from afar, now with two special editions and added personalization

Renowned French sports car maker Alpine has been having a lot of fun with its delightful A110 mid-engine sports car since its release at the Geneva Motor Show three years ago. Between a fully-fledged rally car and a delicious ski-toting concept, Alpine has been churning out some of the most exciting enthusiast products to date—and we grow sadder by the day that we can’t have them.

Now, in hopes of luring even more enthusiasts to the A110 beacon, Alpine has announced a pair of special edition A110s and a new personalization program to further broaden its appeal.

The first special edition, the Légende GT, is billed as an enhanced, exclusive upgrade to the existing Légende, the GT variant takes this road trip-oriented A110 even further. Interested parties had better act fast, however—just 400 examples will be built, each costing €69,300 ($77,184).

Inside, owners will find backlit door sills, two amber leather power adjusted seats, and glossy carbon fiber interior elements with a fancy copper weave. As a boon to this car’s grand touring intentions, each Légende GT will also feature a custom three-piece luggage set, designed to maximize the storage space in the rear of the vehicle.

Mechanical upgrades include an upgrade active sports exhaust for the 1.8-liter turbocharged inline-four, as well as Brembo brakes to haul the 249-horsepower firecracker down from speed.

For buyers seeking more parity in their pantones, the A110 Color Edition should do the trick. Derived from the sportier 288 horsepower A110S, the A110 Color Edition is intended to be a limited edition variant updated annually, as a famous fashion designer would do with a seasonal collection. Put another way, each year there will be a special color for the A110—this year it’s Sunflower Yellow, a tribute to Alpine’s famous Jaune Tournesol paint from the 1960s and ’70s. At the end of the year, that color will no longer be offered, and voila, instant collectible… or something.

Besides a very yellow paint job, the A110 Color Edition receives a smattering of contrasting black—on the 18-inch wheels, Alpine logos and monograms, and inserts in the LED headlights. A carbon fiber roof is offered as an option. Inside, a matching yellow 12 o’clock marking on the steering wheel and yellow Alpine logos on the Sabelt bucket seats contrast the dark Dinamica upholstery found throughout the interior. Similar plaques to those in the Légende GT will also make their way into the A110 Color Edition, lest you forget your Sunflower Yellow car is a special edition. Each Color Edition will cost €71,000, or around $79,105.

If neither special edition mentioned above speaks to you, just hit up Atelier Alpine, the firm’s new personalization program that aims to make every A110 as unique as its driver. Folks will be able to pick from 29 new solid and metallic exterior colors. Just 110 (see what they did there?) versions of each color will be produced. Other personalization aspects include three new finishes for the existing designs (Gloss White, Gloss Black, and Vibrant Gold), as well as four new hues for the brake calipers: Light Grey, Red, Yellow, and Vibrant Gold.

Looks really nice but, the key to any new to the US market is serviceability. If there are only 2 or 3 dealers in any major city chances of sales success will be small. Just ask Peugeot, Renault, Saab, Isuzu, etc.
