AC Schnitzer takes the BMW Z4 to 400 horsepower
German über-tüner AC Schnitzer has turned the wick up on the BMW Z4 M40i to a serendipitous 400 horsepower.
The plug-and-play upgrade adds 60 hp to the turbocharged straight-six engine and is backed by a five-year/50,000-mile warranty. It costs $7695 plus installation.
AC Schnitzer doesn’t quote specific performance gains, but instead has posted a video charting the car’s acceleration from above 100 km/h (62 mph) to its maximum speed of 264 km/h (164 mph).
In addition to the engine mods, AC Schnitzer also offers a $630 rear silencer, a $4895 adjustable suspension kit, a $9495 alloy wheel and tire combination, a $1895 aero pack, and a $490 replacement paddle set for the transmission.
Go to town and your $64,000 Z4 will soon become a near-$90,000 machine. That’s not far shy of the price of an 8 Series convertible. But, hey, maybe AC Schnitzer will throw in one of their new Seiko-powered watches or a polo shirt as part of the deal.
