The brutal soundtrack of this Shelby Daytona Coupe will calm your soul
Race cars are some of mankind’s most raw and violent creations this side of tools of war. Yet somehow, this video of a brutally-quick Shelby Daytona Coupe replica hot-lapping its namesake racetrack brings serenity to my soul.
Maybe it’s the calm and confident commentary by Jim Pace and his delightful southern accent. Or the howl of high-revving 289 V-8 as it attempts to vacuum the entire atmosphere through its Weber carbs. It could also be the bright lights blurring together as the Daytona catapults itself around the banking, like the Millenium Falcon jumping into hyperspace. Regardless of the reason, the video is as soothing and chaotic as a free-form jazz solo.
The Daytona replica, built by Cobra Automotive, was recently a part of Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) and IMSA’s “Classic Daytona,” which invites vintage race cars and replicas to participate in an on-track, wheel-to-wheel, 24-hour-long race recreating the sights and sounds of sports-car past.
If you’re even remotely interested in vintage race cars and the history of the of these beasts, this video will brighten your day. It might even end up being music to your ears, too.
