Auction Results: RM’s 2013 St. John’s sale

In conjunction with the Concours of America, RM Auctions conducted its annual St. John’s sale in Plymouth, Mich., on July 27, 2013. The sale was a success, with 80 vehicular lots (a 90% sell-through rate) selling for $7.7M, which bettered 2012’s $6.8M total and 2011’s $7.6M.

The top slot went to the catalog cover star 1929 Duesenberg Model J Dual-Cowl Phaeton. The car rode a colorful and documented history to a $682,000 sale price, including buyer’s premium. A 1932 Packard Eight convertible traded for $374,000, while a 1933 Marmon Sixteen sedan and a 1932 Packard Twin Six Sport Phaeton each earned $330,000. An expertly restored 1961 Imperial Crown Convertible in stunning Dubonnet Maroon soared well past its $90,000 high estimate to sell for $148,500, and a fully restored 1956 Lincoln Premiere sold mid-estimate for the same money. A rare and unusual 1957 Packard Clipper Country Sedan sold for $44,000, which was well bought given that this is just about the only way to get a 1950s station wagon with fins, two-tone paint, Dagmars and a factory supercharger.
