Graph of the Week: Most Popular 2000s Vehicles

There has been much talk recently about slowdown in the classic car market other than in the segment of modern classics, which mainly refers to cars of the 1980s and 1990s. Certain cars from the 2000s, though, can be considered modern classics or at least collector cars. Cars from the earlier part of the decade are going on 15 years old and becoming popular weekend drivers. In fact, vehicles from the 2000s have seen a 72 percent increase among Hagerty clients compared to last year.

As for what kinds of cars from the New Millenium are the most popular, it’s mostly domestics other than the German trio Porsche 911, BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz SL. Most are also newer versions of models that have been around for a long time and have always been popular with collectors, i.e. the Corvette, Mustang, Thunderbird, Trans Am and Camaro as well as the Porsche and the Mercedes. Newer cars are becoming more and more popular among classic car owners, and it’s the later versions of established makes and models that are the most popular.
