Graph of the Week: Ferrari 250 California Spyder

Like most vintage Ferrari models, the 250 California Spyder (both LWB and SWB versions) has skyrocketed in value during the past 10 years. This is why the $7.7M sale price of a SWB version with covered headlights (albeit one that was born with the less desirable open-headlight configuration) inspired nervous chatter in some circles this past January. After all, this amount was the lowest price seen at public auction since S/N 0769GT sold in August 2012 for $6.6M. Well, to put some hand-wringing to rest, three weeks later Artcurial sold barn-find S/N 2935GT for $18.6M to set the new world record for a Cal Spyder in a public venue. This sale effectively combined collectors’ current preference for cars in “as-found” condition with the Ferrari market’s momentum, showing that the top of the market continues to grow for the right car in the right condition.
