Eric Seltzer’s $6000 Lamborghini Miura
That’s me, Eric Seltzer, sitting on the fender of a 1968 Lamborghini Miura in 1973. Back then, the Miura was nothing more than a five-year-old used Italian car.
My friend Rick Jackson and I were buying and selling import sports cars in Los Angeles. Rick found and bought the vehicles, and I cleaned, serviced, and sold them in the Los Angeles Times classifieds. He found this Miura in Chicago and purchased it. The previous owner had disassembled it, then lost interest and wanted to sell. He was asking a firm $6000.
I drove nonstop from L.A. to Chicago in Rick’s Dodge van towing a trailer, then loaded the Lambo and immediately drove back to L.A. Rick and I spent a year rebuilding the Miura’s V-12 and repainting the body in the suburban driveway of my North Hollywood home. We sold it in fall 1974 for $10,000. That was a lot of dough in 1974, but nothing like today, when a good Miura can fetch $800,000 or more.
