Your Guide to Monterey Car Week 2024

Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance/Kimball Studios

Since the 1950s, Pebble Beach has been revered as the ultimate August destination for auto enthusiasts. Over the years, the event has grown from just the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance to what is now called Monterey Car Week, and it includes events all over Monterey County. From August 9 to 18, 2024, the best cars in the world take to streets, golf courses, parks, and even WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca to celebrate. Monterey Car Week features more than 25 separate events that include car shows, races, auctions, seminars and lectures, art shows, manufacturer displays, and exhibitors, and concludes with the world-famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Save this article as your Guide to Monterey Car Week. Before we get to Sunday on the legendary 18th fairway of Pebble Beach, however, let’s look at all the events that make up the world’s premier celebration of the automobile.

If you’re heading to Monterey Car Week this year, remember that Monterey has a lot to offer in addition to all the car events. You can stop by Fisherman’s Wharf, visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and watch the sunset from Del Monte Beach. Of course, there are also plenty of great drives in the area, down Highway 1 through Big Sur or through 17-Mile Drive. Plus there are some unforgettable rounds of golf at 26 area courses that aren’t going to play themselves.

If you want to see everything Monterey Car Week offers, expect to drive—a lot—and be in traffic—a lot. Only a few of the venues are close together, so if you are joining us in Monterey and want to see the auctions, enjoy the manufacturer displays, watch the cars on the Pebble Beach Tour, and maybe catch dinner in Carmel, you’ll need a way to get around. Here’s an interactive map with the events and locations to help.

It started with Hagerty CEO McKeel Hagerty bringing a few dozen doughnuts and some coffee to a small group of hardcore car fans to watch the cars drive onto the lawn at Pebble Beach, but it sure has grown. A lot. In addition to offering coffee and doughnuts, Dawn Patrol provides the perfect spot to see and hear each entrant drive onto the show field.

Hagerty gives out something else at the event that is quite the attraction: Hats. Each year, a limited number of unique Dawn Patrol hats are distributed to the first spectators on site, and those hats are now among the most coveted items of Concours memorabilia. In that brief moment when the hats are brought out, a baseball cap steals the spotlight from the Duesenbergs, Rolls-Royces, and Packards that will rule the rest of the day. Expect thousands of fans out in the cool morning breeze at the edge of the Pacific Ocean watching the world’s greatest automobiles arrive at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, while wearing their hats as a badge of honor.
