Where Have All the Drive-Ins Gone?
Ah, nostalgia. After last month’s online poll, we became aware that a large number of us appear to be hankering to revisit one of the things of our teen years where – how can we put this –learning other than school subjects may well have occurred. The drive-in theatre!
So, we were on a mission and located a fantastic resource on the internet (where else?) at a site called www.drive-ins.com (of course!) Kudos to whoever worked diligently to come up with all of the (few) remaining drive-in theatres across the fruited plains of our fair country.
Here is a random sample of some drive-ins which are (we believe) still open. Why not pay them a visit in your classic and take in a show?
- Blue Sky Twin-Drive-in, Wisconsin Dells, WI, open May–Sept.
- Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theatre, Honor, MI, open May–Sept.
- Delsea Drive-In. Vineland, NJ, (Jersey’s only drive-in!)
- Higgins Moonlite Drive-In, Woodbury , TN , open all year
- Lynn Auto Theatre, Strasburg , OH , open April–Oct. (“2nd oldest continuously operating drive-in and oldest in Ohio ”)
- Rubidoux Drive-In, Riverside , CA , open all year
- Showboat Drive-In Theatre, Hockley , Texas , opens Mar. 31 (new for 2006!)
- Sky Vue Drive-In, New Castle , IN , open May–Sept.
- StarDust, Watertown, TN
- Weirs Drive-In, Weirs Beach, NH
