Everything You Need to Know to Attend the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2022
The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance remains the climax after a week’s worth of automotive buildup on the Monterey Peninsula. On Sunday, August 21st, over 200 of the most prized collector cars in the world will roll onto the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links to compete in the 71st edition of the longest running concours in the world. Hagerty is providing this guide to help you navigate the day.

Admission
Tickets are digital this year and will be emailed mid-July (nothing mailed). You’ll want to print these or save them to your phone so they can be scanned to enter the Concours, there is no Will Call for tickets. Call 831-372-8026 or tickets@pebblebeachconcours.net with questions.
General Admission tickets are $525 (as of August 1st). You receive access to the show field, parking, a shuttle to the course, and a concours event program. Kids under 12 are free.
There are other ticket options with added dining benefits and exclusive seating options like Club D’Elegance $950, Concours Gallery $1,750, Venue Above the Concept Lawn $1,750, Patron’s Patio at the Winners Circle $3,000, and Chairman’s Hospitality at the Lodge $4,000… however all of those are sold out already for 2022.
Parking
General admission spectators will be directed where to park along the roads of Del Monte Forest. Trailing shuttles will pick you up right there and drop you off near the Lodge. Your ticket to the event gets you through the gate at 17-Mile Drive.
If you want to avoid the hassle of parking, taxis/Ubers/Lyfts are available and will drop off at the Concours Village at Pebble Beach. Carmel-by-the-Sea offers a shuttle service from Carmel Plaza on Ocean Avenue to Pebble Beach. First shuttle leaves Carmel at 8:00am and the last one to return leaves Pebble Beach at 6:00pm. This year’s Featured Classes celebrate:

-Beginning the centennial celebration for the 24 Hours of Le Mans
-Swiss Carrosserie Hermann Graber
-The French made Talbot-Lago Grand Sport
-The classic Alfa 8C 2300 touring car
-McFarlan, known as the American Rolls-Royce
-Otto Vu, a Fiat produced 2-Liter V8 in Fiats and Siatas
-Unorthodox Propulsion which includes weird, wild, and wonderful ways cars have been powered
-1932 Ford Historic Hot Rods mark the 90 anniversary of the “Deuce”
Cars shown at the Concours are chosen by 15 experts in the collector car hobby. The process to get in actually began with applications last November, then entrants underwent a months long review and research process (sometimes including visits by members of the selection committee), follow by a two-day selection committee meeting to choose the vehicles honored to compete in the show.
Seating
Seating in the competition area is limited and spectators are encouraged to bring a small low chair (the seat must be no more than 6 inches off the ground) or a blanket to view the show, and these can be placed in front of the show ramp on a first-come, first-served basis.
What to Wear/Bring
The recommended attire is a polished resort casual look (possibly paired with a fancy hat!). Competitors in the show field will often come in period correct outfits to match their vehicle. You will still need comfortable shoes as even with the shuttle service it is still a lot of walking. Keep in mind that at Pebble Beach it is common to be 50 degrees in the morning and 70+ in the afternoon.
It’s a good idea to bring a small comfortable backpack to carry everything. You’ll want to include sunscreen (not the aerosol kind that can blow onto the paint of the nearby cars!) and sunglasses because of course you are on the ocean. There is lots of memorabilia to buy and you’ll need somewhere to put. Plus, you may want to bring a jacket or blanket to sit on.

Judging
One thing that makes the Pebble Beach Concours so successful is the knowledge and experience of the judges. Each car is evaluated by two groups of judges. The Class Judges are what you’d expect at a concours, they go through and thoroughly check originality, authenticity, and preservation. Over 100 class judges in total have already been researching and studying the cars coming long before the event begins. The second group is made up of Honorary Judges who come through with an eye toward elegance. Overseeing of all those is the Chief Judge.
To be eligible to win Best of Show at Pebble Beach a car must first win its class. Then a group of judges will each cast their vote for Best of Show from the class winners. In addition to the Best of Show and class awards, there are four Most Elegant awards granted, considered by show enthusiasts to be second only in prestige to the Best of Show winners.
Pebble Beach Dawn Patrol Presented by Hagerty (Hagerty will have a livestream)
Dawn Patrol is an annual tradition that unofficially kicks off the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance at 5:30 a.m. for spectators to see each car enter the show field. Enthusiasts who want to hear a wide range of engine sounds will come out before the sun rises for the noises, cars, coffee, donuts, and if you’re lucky enough, a free Dawn Patrol hat from Hagerty. It’s early, but always impressive to see these cars running and driving under their own power.
Concept Lawn
In addition to being the preeminent classic car show, it has also become an important venue for automobile manufacturers to display their most advanced cars of the future. So, on one side of The Lodge at Pebble Beach are the immaculate classic cars, and the other side (located near the practice putting green area) are some of the most significant new concept and supercars, like the new electric DeLorean that will be there.
Concours Village
Many automotive and luxury goods manufactures will be hosting displays across from the Pebble Beach Auctions presented by Gooding & Company at Forest Lake Road and Stevenson Drive. There are ride and drives being offered along with great expert speaker panels, car forums, and shopping. The Concours Village is open from Thursday-Sunday.

The Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance Presented by Rolex
This free event on Thursday August 18th is a great way to watch the cars in motion. They line up around 7:00am and leave for the tour about 9:00am. A map of their route can be found here. Some years as much as 80% of the concours entrants take part in the 70-mile cruise around the peninsula. It’s not just for show either as participation in the drive can break ties in judging on Sunday.
Pebble Beach RetroAuto
RetroAuto is open from 9:00am-5:00pm Thursday-Sunday at the Concours Village at Pebble Beach and is a spot to pick up all your collectible and automotive memorabilia along with luxury goods.
Pebble Beach Classic Car Forums Presented by AIG and Alliant Private Client
These go on Thursday-Saturday in the Concours Village. Most are free, but require preregistration. The forums offers a series of must-see panels and interviews featuring luminaries of the automotive world.
Pebble Beach Auctions Presented by Gooding & Company
This is a ticketed event Friday and Saturday August 19-20 (with viewing Wednesday and Thursday). The Pebble Beach Auctions with Gooding and Company at the helm offer car buyers the opportunity to not only see but purchase some impeccable collector cars. Located at Parc du Concours, it’s the only auction held within the gates of 17-Mile Drive.
Pebble Beach Motoring Classic
The Motoring Classic actually starts August 8 in Washington and ends August 17th at Pebble Beach. Estimated arrival time is 3pm when they will parade from the Transport lot to the Casa Palmero parking garage. Free to come give them a big welcome after their long journey.
