11 of the coolest new products unveiled at SEMA 2021

Matthew Fink

The 2021 SEMA show has over 1,000 of the most amazing car builds on display showing off the skills of the best builders and products on the market. We have scoured the show’s 1,300 exhibitors to find the 11 cool and unique products new to the market for car enthusiasts that you may not have heard of. Through a very scientific method we came up with the following awards:

The “Please Sell this at Every Car Show” Award

AutoBio Tags

AutoBio Tags

How many times have you been walking around a car show and wanted to learn about a vehicle, but the owner wasn’t around? Here’s a simple fix, AutoBio Tags. It’s a 3” window cling with QR code that when scanned leads to a personal webpage about the car. The webpage is easy to make by simply taking pictures and answering a few questions about the history of the car. For $49 you get a lifetime membership and your own webpage for your car that you can personalize and others can leave comments on. Everyone with a cool car please get this!

The “How Did No One Think of This Before” Award

Sawtooth Stretch Tonneau Cover

A truck bed cover that stretches and expands, rolls up, repels dust, weighs nothing, and is weatherproof? Yes, please. Stop being so rigid (with your tonneau cover) and for about $400 start hauling larger loads. Makes me want a truck just so I can get one.

The “It’s Not For Me But it’s Still Cool” Award

Tire Stickers

Tire Stickers

You can put whatever words or logos you want on a sticker that goes on your tires for about $200. Think of the money you’ll save on tire dressing! Someone please buy this and send us pictures with some cool saying. The creative opportunities are endless. The question is, will these become this generation’s version of white walls?

The “Increase Your Truck’s Truckability” Award

Tailhand

Tailhand

After a century of boring tailgates on trucks, we are finally getting some features added by manufacturers. But what if you want to do actual work on your tailgate, and not just have it fold into a futon and make your coffee, or whatever it is they can do now? Tailhand transforms your tailgate into a versatile mobile workstation that keeps tools and materials in place. For about $500 you get a platform that mounts on the inside of your truck’s tailgate and includes multiple fences and clamps to hold things in position vertically while you are driving, and horizontally while you are working.

The “Making Front License Plates Stink a Little Less” Award

Stratos Meccanica

I’ve always thought of front license plates like a pimple on your face. For the 30 US states that require you to drive with a front zit, think of this quick disconnect license plate attachment like a little makeup. It attaches with a lug to your car’s front bumper tow hook eyelet and for about $150 allows you to angle your plate to fit the lines of your car. No drilling holes (so no scars on your face), and the best part is without tools you can remove your plate in seconds making the pimple completely vanish.  The factory plastic bumper cover will fit over the lug. Plus there is an attachment to mount a front camera!

The “Keep the Shiny, Eliminate the Greasy” Award

Meguiar’s Insane Shine Protectant

Meguiar’s Insane Shine Protectant

Everyone has a different preference for their interior finish from natural to high gloss (I like my level of shiny just north of seeing my reflection in the dashboard). But no one, and I mean no one, likes the slimy dust collecting feel that comes with high gloss interior sprays. Meguiar’s has the answer. Just released this week is their highest gloss formula, YET leaves no greasy feel. Wipe this all over the interior (not leather) and get huge shine and UV protection but without the tacky, slimy feel. It also repels dust meaning the shiny look doesn’t have to come with negative consequences anymore.

The “Camper that Fits in Your Closet” Award

Hitch Hotel

Do you have a storage shed, a little space in the back of your garage, or even a good-sized coat closet? If so, you too have room to store a camper. The Hitch Hotel is the smallest and lightest camper around. With the unit collapsed and tongue folded up it is only 39” deep! That’s barely over 1 yard. They claim it is light enough a Smart Car can tow it. When extended it is over 7 feet long with room for a queen size mattress inside. It comes carpeted, wired, and ducted for the optional power and A/C. Starting around $6,000 it should allow you to sleep just about anywhere your Smart Car, or any other vehicle, can take you.

The “Most Unique Off-Road Accessory” Award

Off Road In Mind Recovery Gear Box

It can be hard to stand out with a Jeep or Bronco accessory these days, but we found one to be pretty unique for its simplicity. The Off Road in Mind rear spare tire gearbox attaches to any vehicle with a rear spare (not just Jeeps) with a couple of brackets that go around the spokes of the spare. That’s it. For about $150 you have a lockable, 8-gallon storage box. It comes with a roll of Velcro to hold your recovery gear for when your buddy gets stuck (or a coffee maker, your choice no judgment).

The “It’s Cool to Be Green” Award

All Mighty Green Detailing Products

All Mighty Green Detailing Products

As expected for 2021, there were quite a few new products created in the last year that claim to clean the air and kill germs in your car. But what about the chemicals in the products we are using to clean? Are those bad for us? All Mighty Green thinks so and have created an entire line of auto detailing supplies to address that. Their claims of a “naturally better” product may be gimmicky, however their efforts and dedication to removing harmful chemicals from auto detailing supplies is not. As an auto detailer myself, I tip my hat to you.

Griot’s Garage Sit-On Creeper

Anyone else finding it harder and harder to get down on the ground to clean your wheels? Just me? What about getting back up off the ground gracefully? Well, Griot’s Garage has a product that will make you look much more nimble next time for around $100. This wheely cart comes with multiple drink holders, I mean chemical bottle holders, and storage on the inside, perfect for working on lower body panels or wheels. But the best part is the top padded seat is removable and has its own set of wheels when you need to get even lower. My knees and pride thank you.
