Actress Gabrielle Union gifts NBA husband Dwyane Wade with a classic Mercedes
With three NBA championships, 13 NBA All-Star appearances, and a future induction into the National Basketball Hall of Fame, you’d think Dwyane Wade would be a hard person to surprise or impress. Wade’s wife, actress Gabrielle Union, accomplished both earlier this week, however.
On January 10, Wade posted a video on Instagram showing an early 39th birthday gift that he received from Union, his bride of six years: a white 1988 Mercedes-Benz R107 SL convertible.

According to eonline, the video was recorded by Wade’s 18-year-old son, Zaire. A voice off-screen shouts, “Surprise!” as Wade and Union exit their house, and the shocked former professional basketball star excitedly makes a move toward the car before suddenly— smartly—backpedaling to thank his wife and give her a kiss.
Along with posting the video, Wade wrote, “One week before I turn 39 and @gabunion has already started with the surprises. She just raised the bar #1988 Classic!” Wade later posted a standalone photo of the car.
The video is reminiscent of Kevin Hart’s 40th birthday gift to himself, a 1970 Plymouth Cuda that he also shared on Instagram in July 2019. Sadly, Hart was seriously injured in the car just two months later. He has since recovered from his injuries. Previously, Hart surprised his comedy entourage by buying each of them a classic car—eight cars total—after completing his Irresponsible Tour, a gesture he shared on Instagram in 2018.
As for Wade, this isn’t the first time that Union has gifted him with a classic vehicle. Less than a year ago, on Father’s Day 2020, she surprised him with a vintage Ford Bronco. Wade’s Instagram page also includes photos of him with Porsches, McLarens, and other European brands.
