This Volkswagen Bus DJ Booth Brings the Party

Hagerty Marketplace

Do you like VW buses? Hard not to. Do you also like music? Would be weird if you didn’t.

If you’re a big partier, and a regular old car stereo is just too quiet, this VW Transporter, currently up for auction on Hagerty Marketplace, has you covered. On the outside, it’s a 1972 Type 2 in muted colors, but a custom hatch in the middle opens to reveal an array of surprisingly nice DJ and lighting equipment. With that pokey flat-four out back you won’t be spinning tires in this thing, but in the booth, you can spin records all night long.

The basis of this mobile dance party machine is a Brazilian-built 1972 Transporter, complete with the split pop-out windshield and painted 14-inch steel wheels with hub caps. While in Brazil, it received a restoration that included a new 1500 cc engine and, presumably, the unassuming dark charcoal paint seen here. The restoration also included the DJ booth conversion with a hinged roof panel that opens (slowly) via gas shocks. The VW party bus reportedly came to the U.S. in 2021 through California and has been used for events in and around Miami Beach since then, according to the listing.

As for what gets the toes tappin’ and the heads boppin’, there is a four-deck setup with two Denon controllers and media players as well as a Denon mixer, two Electro-Voice 2000-watt, 15-inch speakers, and one Behringer Eurolive floor monitor. Lighting elements include a Soundswitch controller and two Chauvet LED systems with moving heads.

The Denon stuff in particular is quality gear. A little napkin math adds up to roughly $10K worth of DJ hardware alone in this Volkswagen, to say nothing of the cost of restoration and fabricating that hatch. The seller notes minor rust spots on the lower door corners, sills, and latches as well as a scratch and wonky lock on the body panel covering the speakers. Otherwise, the condition looks good enough for rock and roll. Or disco. Or house. Or techno. You could host raves with this thing and call it the Tranceporter.

Or you could do weddings, birthdays, breweries, beach parties, you name it. Sounds like a fun little side hustle.

Bidding for it is now open, and it ends on Thursday, October 17, at 3:10 p.m. EDT.
