These Low-mileage Buick Grand National “Twinz” can be yours
Low-mileage Buick Grand Nationals pop up so often that we joke around the Hagerty office that everyone that bought one actually bought two, keeping one parked because they knew it would be a future collectible. That wasn’t the case with Bill Brown, owner of Bill Brown Motors in Shattuck, Oklahoma. Bill kept the mileage low on both 1987 Buick Grand Nationals that he kept in storage. In fact, one shows fewer than 900 miles on the odometer, and the other is under 600 miles.
Grand Nationals packed turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6s that produced 245 horsepower, enough to make them one of the most formidable street cars of their time. Buick bested exotics as well as GM’s own Corvette in acceleration.
Bill since passed away, but his son has kept the cars in dusty but otherwise pristine shape, down to their intact window stickers. They will be headed to Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale Auction in January 2019 where they will be sold together as one lot with no reserve.
What might make them even more desirable for a collector is their sequential VINs, showing these twins were built consecutively on the production line. Their identical specs and nearly-identical VINs earned them the nickname “the Twinz.” We’re not sure where the Z comes from, but they’ve garnered quite a buzz after being photographed together once they were properly detailed.
A single 1987 Grand National, the final year of turbo G-body production, is worth around $50,000 in concours condition. Could this low-mileage pair be special enough to warrant even more?
