First production Pontiac Firebirds, VIN 001 and 002, currently for sale on eBay

Restored by Gas Monkey Garage, the first and second production Pontiac Firebirds ever built are currently available for sale on eBay with a Buy It Now price of $285,000 for the pair.

The twin Firebirds, wearing serial number 001 and 002, were built in early 1967 at Pontiac’s Lordstown, Ohio plant. Number 001 is a red convertible with deluxe red interior, cruise control, and power brakes and steering, powered by a 326 V-8 paired with an automatic transmission. Number 002 is a silver hardtop with a deluxe black interior, power steering and brakes, hood-mounted tachometer, and a four-speed manual behind a 326 H.O. V-8. Both cars were used to promote Pontiac’s new pony car before they were offered for sale.

Their current $285,000 Buy It Now price falls between the high bids found at its previous auction attempts at Barrett-Jackson in 2016 and later in 2017, where they did not meet the reserve.  Disregarding their unique status as the first production Firebirds, the pair would be worth in the neighborhood of $90,000 in top #1 (Concours) condition.

Will a bidder hold their place in Pontiac and pony car history in enough esteem to bring them into a new collection? We’ll find out on Monday, May 13th, when the auction wraps up.
