This Holden is officially the most expensive Ute ever sold at auction
A few weeks ago, we brought you the story of an insane Holden Ute up for auction. This Maloo GTSR W1 is one of four LS9-powered monsters, the last of a breed of Aussie muscle cars before GM pulled the plug on domestic production in Australia.
After weeks of online pre-bidding, Lloyds held a live event to sell the vehicle along with numerous other modern collector cars. By the time the Ute crossed the block, online bidding had reached a staggering $1.05 million ($795,958 U.S.). After a short showing on the stage and verification of the high bid online, the hammer fell on a final figure of $1,128,750 ($855,655 U.S.), inclusive of the 7.5 percent buyer’s fee.
Bidding may have been anticlimactic, but the result is huge: This is the highest recorded sale of an Australian Ute at public auction. The sheer scarcity of this model and the unique appeal of Australian muscle cars surely drove the price. This Maloo will likely sit at the center of passionate Holden fan’s collection; here’s hoping that the Ute gets out once in a while to stretch its legs.
