Abbey Road now belongs to the Lamborghini Espada

Sorry, Beatles, this wonderful 1976 Lamborghini Espada is now the definitive Abbey Road image for my brain. I love your music, but you have neither 12 cylinders nor twin fuel tanks, and therefore second fiddle will have to do.

Lamborghini is celebrating 50 years of the Espada, a GT car with a V-12 and a gorgeous wedge-like shape. As part of the festivities, an Espada from the Lamborghini Museum went on a tour of London, including a visit to Abbey Road. It’s also been 50 years since the Beatles recorded “Hey Jude” at Abbey Road Studios.

During Pebble Beach week there was a huge gathering of Espadas in front of the Lamborghini stand at The Quail, and Stefano Domenicali personally awarded each owner a certificate of authenticity from the factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese.

How do I know that? Because Hagerty editor-at-large Aaron Robinson owns a pale mint green Espada, and online editor Brandan Gillogly and I drove it up to Monterey together from Southern California so it could be shown at The Quail. (Aaron was busy towing his modified 1933 Austin Seven up.) It is smooth, comfortable, and oh-so-stylish. I smelled like gasoline and oil for several days and I wish the scent would have stuck around longer.
