The Audi RS Q8 just broke the Nürburgring lap record for SUVs

The RS Q8 will be revealed later this month, but what we can tell you in advance is that the range-topping full-size SUV packs the same 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque as the RS 6 and RS 7 Sportback, and it reaches a confirmed 188 mph on the Nürburgring’s straight. Top “track speed” is claimed at 190 mph, but more importantly, Audi’s largest RS car to date will also lap the Nordschleife in 7:42.253. That is nearly 12 seconds faster than the previous SUV record holder, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S, and faster than the current Honda Civic Type R.

Driven by Frank Stippler, the Q8 RS literally flew around the curbs to get this record, but its twin-turbo V-8 and active chassis certainly got close to fooling the laws of physics, given the SUV’s substantial mass. The Nürburgring’s video also gives you a very good idea of what the 2020 RS Q8’s interior will be like, something we can only reveal in full on the 20th of November.
