Turn your new Defender or Bronco into an all-terrain RV

Turning SUVs into RVs is German firm GehoCab’s speciality. The new Land Rover Defender and Ford Bronco are the latest to get its unique carbon-fiber camping bodies.

GehoCab has already produced conversions for the Jeep Wrangler and Mercedes G-Wagen, so adding two more off-road icons is an obvious move.

For these SUV-based campers, GehoCab replaces the whole of the vehicle behind the rear doors with a carbon-fiber camping shell bolted directly to the chassis. Inside you get a fully-fitted kitchen, dining table and seating, plus a double bed above the front seats. GehoCab has even squeezed a shower and toilet into the space. The downside is that you lose the back seats, but you do get a spacious lockable luggage space.

The whole setup weighs about 1000 pounds, although you can specify additional carbon-fiber for the interior features to reduce weight further.

There’s quite a price to pay, however, with the conversion costing $124,000 and that doesn’t include the cost of the SUV.

Fortunately there is a less expensive way to take your Defender off for a wild weekend. Land Rover offers a hard shell roof tent designed by Autohome for $3600.
