1971 Porsche 911T and 1981 Porsche 911SC

1981 PORSCHE 911SC Targa
S/N WPOEA0916BS160969
Light blue metallic/gray leather. 162,484 miles. Very good repaint a few years old, virtually no nicks or road abrasions. Dash pad cover, aftermarket stereo, speakers mounted in rear footwells. Some light wear on driver’s seat bolsters. Rear glass seals are dry and cracking, with about an inch missing at the upper right corner. Tinted glass. Average engine bay. PCA member-owned since new. SOLD AT $9,660 by Silver Auctions at Fountain Hills, AZ, on January 18, 2003.

The SC is regarded as the best of its era, with plenty of power from its 3.2-liter engine and none of the fancy doo-dads that make later Porches more luxurious, but less sporty. But even with Porsche’s reputation for building robust powerplants, with this kind of mileage and no evidence of any major engine work, the new owner will be lucky to get 25,000 miles before he’s faced with costly engine work.

1971 PORSCHE 911T Coupe
Red/gray. 54,365 miles. 2.2-liter with Webers, 5-speed. Ex-Nevada car, imported to England some years ago. Stone chips to front, interior good. Finish on Fuchs wheels poor. Cond: 3+. SOLD AT $10,849 by H&H Classic Auctions at Buxton, UK, on December 10, 2003.

Pre-1975 911s of all flavors have seen dramatic price increases in the past three years, as enthusiasts have rediscovered their live-wire throttle response and nimble handling characteristics. This car appeared to be a decent driver, and the new owner can probably look forward to enjoying it without spending much beyond basic maintenance. While fully priced today, in two year’s time it wouldn’t be surprising to see this car bring $15,000.
