GM and Honda to partner for two future Honda EVs

General Motors and Honda announced that their long-standing alternative fuel and battery partnership will soon bear fruit. GM will supply Honda with its new global EV platform for two upcoming Honda-branded vehicles to be sold in Canada and the United States.

The vehicles, with a targeted arrival date in the 2024 model year, will feature interiors and exteriors designed by Honda, but they will be built at GM plants in North America. The fusing of Honda and GM technology will continue for the driver interface, as OnStar will be meshed with HondaLink smart phone connectivity. Further, both as-yet-unnamed vehicles will be able to incorporate GM’s hands-free driver-assist.

GM and Honda have previously partnered in fuel cell and battery development, beginning in 2013. The two companies also worked to develop the self-driving Cruise Origin concept that GM will put into production at its Detroit-Hamtramck plant.

The upcoming GM EV platform and Ultium batteries will underpin future Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, and Buick vehicles across the globe, with the production debut expected to come with the Chevy Bolt’s successor, which is due later this year. We’re sure timetables have shifted, but it shouldn’t be too long before we have details on the capability of GM’s new platform.
