Acura unveils more powerful, $125K Integra race car for 2024

Honda Performance Development (HPD) has unveiled a new Acura race car, designed for competition in the SRO TC America Powered by the Skip Barber Racing School championship.

The Integra Type S DE5 will be eligible for competition in the premier TCX class, where the Acura will compete against other premium sports car brands starting in 2024. The OEM is also seeking approval for the DE5 Integra to take part in the growing Sports Car Championship Canada series. Presumably, the car could also be legal for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Michelin Pilot Challenge series in the TCR class, as well as an SCCA class.

“HPD is proud to have developed the Acura Integra Type S DE5, and make it available for competition,” said John Whiteman, the department’s commercial manager. “Our newest offering builds on the significant success we have achieved in North American Touring Car racing. Supported by our outstanding commercial and trackside engineering staff, we are looking forward to seeing the Acura Integra Type S DE5 competing in 2024.”

The race car, priced at $125,000, is based on the Integra Type S, which became available through Acura dealers nationwide in June of this year.

Like the 11th-generation Civic Si FE1 race car, the competition version of the Integra Type S is designed, developed, and assembled inside Honda’s North American facilities “to ensure the highest levels of precision and craftsmanship.”

The racing version of the Integra will be powered by a modified version of the factory-fit engine, the 2.0-liter, turbocharged K20C8 four-cylinder. The racing version of the engine, co-developed by HPD and HRC, produces 360 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. Shifting is handled by a Quaife six-speed sequential, paddle-shift unit. The body shell is purpose-built from a body-in-white which deletes all unneeded street vehicle components such as sound proofing, underbody coating, and seam sealer, and is then fitted with a safety roll cage. The racer is completed with aerodynamic components, including an adjustable rear wing, and cooling upgrades. Brakes are by AP Racing with Pagid pads.

Pre-orders for the Integra Type S DE5 are now being accepted at HPD with a deposit of $25,000, with the balance due upon delivery. Orders can be placed directly through HPD Customer Service by email at grmsadmin@na.honda.com.
