A Dodge with a strong European bloodline? The Dodge LX Charger and Challenger shared much with the Mercedes W211 platform, the basis of their 2002–2009 E-Class cars, thanks to the Daimler-Chrysler merger. Yet there was no mistaking the new Challenger’s all-American heritage—a modern interpretation of the classic 1970 Dodge Challenger.
The Challenger was created by designer Michael “Casti” Castiglione of Chrysler’s Pacifica Advanced Design Studios in Carlsbad, California. “During the development of the concept car, we brought an actual 1970 Challenger into the studio,” he explained. “For me, that car symbolizes the most passionate era of automotive design.” The full-width taillights of the 1970 Challenger were another design element used on the 2008–2014 Challengers, along with the bold chrome fuel filler. But there is nothing vintage under these Challengers, with modern third-generation Hemi V8 power. The optional five-speed W5A580 automatic transmission and sophisticated suspension and brakes were also sourced from Mercedes-Benz.
This low-miles, three-owner 2013 Dodge Challenger R/T has a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 in it, features uncommon Jazz Pearl Blue paint, and is loaded with options including the 28M Preferred Package, performance Super Track Pak, and a power sunroof.
